The
Westminster Police Department Animal Control Unit is committed to providing a
high quality level of service to the community of Westminster and Stanton. The
unit is dedicated to ensure the safety and welfare of animals and people and
promotes responsible pet ownership. We accomplish this through education and
enforcement of Westminster animal ordinances and California state laws.
There is an Animal Control Officer on duty every day during business hours,
excluding major holidays. Routine calls are only handled when the Animal
Control Officer is on duty. 24 hour service is provided for emergencies only
such as stray injured animals or aggressive animals running at large that have
caused or attempted to cause injury.
The
following services are provided by Animal Control:
- Investigation of neglect,
cruelty, and
abandonment complaints
- Investigation of animal
bites and quarantine
of animals
- Investigation of potentially dangerous,
vicious, and nuisance dogs

Simply click the “My Account” tab on this website to begin. Licenses are required for all dogs in Westminster. Dog licenses must be renewed annually. Licenses are considered non-delinquent when they are renewed within 30 days of expiration. After 30 days, late fees are charged to renew. Reasons for Licensing · Public health - it ensures that your dog is vaccinated for rabies. · Legal ownership – it provides proof that the dog legally belongs to you. · Compliance - It's the LAW.
A current rabies vaccination certificate is required to purchase a license. (*) Contact Westminster Animal Control to purchase these items. (**)A certificate of sterilization is required if your dog is altered (spayed or neutered). (***)Proof of owner’s age and a certificate of sterilization for the dog is required. Dog License/Vaccination Renewal Notices are mailed out near the time that a previous license will expire. Proof of a current rabies vaccination is required to purchase a license. If your rabies vaccination expiration date on the renewal notice is current on the form, you need not provide additional proof. If we do not have record of your pet being spayed or neutered, proof must be shown to receive the sterilized discount. Licenses are available through the mail.
